Dr. Marie E. Krafft is Vice President of the Board of Directors of both the MDS Research Foundation and SynCure Cancer Research Foundation. Dr. Krafft joined the faculty of Florida State University in 1985 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to full Professor in 1995. She has both her B.A. and Ph.D., with a specialization in Organic Chemistry, from Virginia Tech (VPI) and she carried out postdoctoral studies at Columbia University in Organic Synthesis. Over the last 15 years she has overseen the research of more than 50 students and postdoctoral research associates, published more than 50 papers in refereed scientific journals and has been invited to speak at scientific meetings and in academic settings throughout the world. Her research has been supported by over 2.5 million dollars in grant money from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and private foundations. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including two ACS outstanding undergraduate awards at VPI, and NIH postdoctoral Fellowship award to study at Columbia University, a Sloan Foundation award, a Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar award, a Developing Scholar award from FSU, the American Cyanamid award and a NSF Creativity Extension.
