Fourth Annual
Spring Classic 2007

To Benefit
The SynCure Cancer Research Foundation and
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
In Memory of Geoff Kerr

The SynCure Cancer Research Foundation held their 4th Annual ‘Spring Classic’ sporting clays charity fun shoot on Sunday, April 22, 2007.  A record number of participants met for the event on a “Chamber of Commerce” day at the historic Orvis-Sandanona Shooting Grounds in Millbrook, New York.  Proceeds to further world-class, life-saving research were donated to the SynCure-Murray F. Brennan, MD Research Fund at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.

The ‘sold-out’ event attracted sporting clays shooters from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Florida, Wyoming, and Montana. The day began with a continental breakfast, followed by sporting clays, a gourmet luncheon and an award presentation. Trophies were presented to the ‘high gun’, runner-up, and high lady shooters.

This year’s “Classic” was dedicated to the memory of Geoff Kerr, a renowned shotgun instructor and sporting clays expert, who succumbed to cancer in 2006.  Geoff’s wife and daughter were in attendance to receive the many accolades from numerous friends participating in the shooter field.

Dr. Lew Metts, SynCure Foundation Board member and Steve Roman, an advisor to SynCure’s Board, thanked all the participants and described the ongoing efforts of the Foundation in supporting cancer research and public cancer education throughout the nation. Mr. John Gunn, Executive Vice President and CFO of Memorial Sloan-Kettering, discussed MSKCC’s new research programs and the importance of SynCure’s efforts in supporting those programs.

The event was an overwhelming success thanks to the extraordinary generosity of sponsors, participants, and a number of cancer survivors who added their own personal testimonials to the importance of cancer research.

Everyone had a terrific day in support of an important cause; the weather was superb, the food excellent, the targets and presentations first rate.
