Testimonial on the Summer Faculty Fellows Program
Professor Keith Krumpe, UNC - Asheville
"The summer of research without distraction at Florida State University that was provided by the Faculty Fellow program was a wonderful experience and continues to be invaluable to my career. I was able to establish a foundation of work in a number of areas that has grown into five senior thesis projects for my students. It also allowed for exploration into new areas of chemistry and the development of preliminary results around which two grant proposals are being constructed.
While UNCA is committed to the ideal of faculty scholarship with undergraduates, the small size and limited resources of a small public liberal arts college make it difficult for faculty to begin or revitalize a research program. So much of my time each day is consumed by responsibilities not directly related to teaching and research that developing new areas of scholarship is unbelievably difficult. I am quite confident in saying that none of the five senior thesis projects and grant proposals that I mentioned above would have been possible without the Faculty Fellow program. I also know that the intellectual stimulation that resulted from a summer with FSU researchers will allow for future productivity and energy.
The Faculty Fellow program has allowed me to become a better teacher because it has energized me as a scholar. I would recommended it to everyone and would encourage anyone who is offered the opportunity to participate in the program to rearrange their summer plans to make it happen."
