Summer Faculty Fellows Program: To augment the Summer Undergraduate Research Program's goal of expanding the future cadre of highly motivated and qualified chemistry researchers, the Summer Faculty Fellows Program allows a professor from a predominantly undergraduate institution to gain a full summer of state-of-the-art research experience. The Fellow works in the lab of a chemistry professor at Florida State University. A unique aspect of the program is that the Faculty Fellow is given an opportunity to work on his or her own research ideas. They are provided supplies and full access to all facilities in FSU’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
The Summer Faculty Fellows Program is designed to assist a young faculty member whose research and teaching would be enhanced by full summer of intense research activity. It is anticipated that results obtained during the summer will be used to acquire future external funding for their research. The primary benefit of this Program is that it touches many students’ life when the Fellow returns to the classroom and the teaching lab.
The program was initiated in the Summer 1999 and is run in cooperation with Research Corporation of Tucson, AZ . The Research Corporation assists in the identification of qualified candidates from predominantly undergraduate institutions who are then invited to apply to the program.
In 1999 Dr. Anne Wilson of Butler University, Indianapolis, IN was the Faculty Fellow.
In 2000 the Faculty Fellow was Dr. Keith Krumpe, Professor of Chemistry, the University of North Carolina, Asheville, NC. In 2002, Dr. Chris Nichols, Professor of Chemistry at California State University, Chico served as the Summer Faculty Fellow.
The program is co-funded by the MDS Research Foundation.
